untitled (INA LA) (installation detail) Craftboard, cardboard, thermal adhesive, lacquer and spray enamel 2011

I am a visual artist whose practice is an investigation into the poetry and politics of mark-making and various relationships to public space, sign systems and pop culture. These ideas are materialised via a range of media including sculpture, painting, screen based and site specific projects. I currently live and work in New York City.

In 2010 I curated THE STOKE – Skateboarding in Brisbane at The Museum of Brisbane. This social history exhibition was a giant undertaking (and labor of love) that told a detailed history of the Brisbane skateboarding scene through rider profiles, board collections, video, photographs, documentary film and a historical reconstruction of the Moorooka Skate Shed bowl. This exhibition was the first of it’s kind in Australia and broke all attendance records for the museum.
In 2011 my studio based work has focused on the production of large scale sculptural relief pieces based on found inscriptions, texts and symbols that punctuate public spaces. These hand made objects painstakingly combine found gestures with commonplace materials whilst quietly contemplating the origin and poetic qualities of the mark itself. A selection of this work was shown with Dianne Tanzer Gallery + projects in Melbourne for my July 2011 solo exhibition, YOUSE.

In August of 2011 I undertook a three month Australia Council artist residency at the Cite des Arts in Paris, France. My work is currently on show at the Queensland University of Technology Art Museum as part of Selected Works New Acquisitions from the QUT Art Collection.
